Through the noble intentions of His Eminence the 1st Kalu Rinpoche, his reincarnation Kalu Rinpoche Yangsi was born on September 17, 1990, during the monthly fulfillment offerings to the special Shangpa Kagyu Protector Six-Armed Mahakala at his previous home, Samdrub Darjay Choling Monastery in Sonada, India. Many auspicious signs accompanied the birth of Kalu Rinpoche, as his monastery was covered with a canopy of rainbows identical to the rainbows that had appeared above the monastery after the 1st Kalu Rinpoche’s Parinirvana.
H.E. Kalu Rinpoche was born to Lama Gyaltsen who served as Rinpoche’s secretary. Chamgon Tai Situ Rinpoche officially recognized Kalu Rinpoche Yangsi on March 25, 1992, saying that he had received definite signs from Kalu Rinpoche himself. His Holiness the Dalai Lama was then consulted and confirmed that the child, then one and a half years old, was surely and unmistakably the reincarnation of Kalu Rinpoche. On February 28, 1993, H.E. Kalu Rinpoche was enthroned at Samdrup Darjay Choling Monastery in Sonada at a profound ceremony of investiture. The 14th Chamgon Tai Situ Rinpoche and Gyaltsap Rinpoche presided over the ceremony. Tai Situ Rinpoche performed the hair-cutting ceremony and bestowed on the young incarnation the name Karma Ngedön Tenpay Gyaltsen; Victory Banner of the Teachings of the True Meaning.
In June of 1995, Rinpoche made his first worldwide tour. H.E. Kalu Rinpoche received the complete Empowerments of the Shangpa Kagyu lineage, and in September 2008 completed his first three-year retreat. We are indeed extremely grateful to H.E. Kalu Rinpoche whose sole purpose in life is to bring benefit to all beings and who through his commitments and diligence to continue in an unbroken way the precious transmissions of the Shangpa and Karma Kagyu lineages.

The Rigorous Physical Yoga Teaching of the Six Yogas of Niguma originated with Niguma, an 11th-century realized Buddhist yogini born in a Brahman family in Kashmir. Niguma passed on her yoga to a single disciple, Khyungpo Naljor, with the condition that it remain secret and only passed on to a single disciple for seven generations. In the 13th century it was made more widely available to other practitioners by Sangye Tönpa who was the seventh generation. These 18 exercises are essential instructions for the supreme accomplishment of the path of liberation. They utilize our bodies as a method to cause the ‘prana mind’ to enter the central channel and untie the knots of the channels. The root texts of these practices are only transmitted orally.
Kyabje Kalu Rinpoche will personally transmit the instructions for performing the yogas.
As this presentation is being made over only three days, all participants are urged to attend all sessions in their entirety and to bring a six-layer (4.5” loft) zabuton cushion with them. These are readily available online from a variety of merchants.
IMPORTANT NOTES: Clothing for both men and women is to be a short sleeved cotton tee crew neck and cotton shorts that go to the knee. For three days prior to the start of the teaching, participants cannot consume alcohol or intoxicants, or smoke (tobacco, cannabis, vaping); likewise, they are to abstain from all meat products and 'oily, greasy, fatty foods.

Mahakala is a pure emanation of Avalokiteshvara in order to benefit all beings. His practice originates from the great Mahasiddha Shawaripa and was carried to Tibet by Khyungpo Naljor. It has been passed down through an unbroken lineage until the present. The great Taranatha, a lineage holder of this practice refined the texts and practices. Because there are misconceptions of the protector as someone guarding the front door and the deities are in the middle of the temple, while the root guru and the Buddha are forgotten on the side. But the essence of this Mahakala practice in the lineage of Taranatha is combining the protector with the deity and guru yoga practice. That has been the essence of this practice.
Sessions are 9:30am - 12:00pm and 1:00pm - 3:00pm
